this is seriously the Atlas variant I’ve been looking for. The Amara has enough bitterness to balance the sweetness of rum, calvados and orange liqueur. Very curious now to see how Amara works in a Burnt Fuselage (cognac, dry vermouth,
grand marnieramara, equal parts)LikeLike
Burnt fuselage. Very tartary.

Does this mean you’ve found a Calvados you’re happy with?

yes, fairly. Though the lighter-tasting Daron is an easier mixer.

Hm. Apparently there’s a Christian Drouin product at ABC, although I can’t for the life of me tell which one it is: the state’s photo doesn’t match any of the bottles on Drouin’s web site. All I know is it’s $40. It’s closest in appearance to http://www.anchordistilling.com/brand/drouin/#selection-calvados , which means it’s not aged much (if at all?) and uses both pears and apples. WIll have to go by and see if I can tell in person. $40.

that’s a high price just to find out if it’s drinkable.

Yeah. I’m hoping looking at the actual bottle will at least tell me what it is.
Oddly, Anchor is apparently the US distributor.

Yep, it’s the pear/apple product (appellation Calvados). Another pass.
