This is the second time I think I might be able to wriggle off the hook of Civ V. It’s destroyed my last 3 weeks, but I’ve got to a point where I don’t really know what to do and I have no interest whatever in the upcoming world congress. I could ride roughshod over the world’s other powers but the unhappiness is strong and its remedy (build happy buildings) is slow and boring.
…I think… I think I might be free.

what difficulty do you play on?

this is my first game so 4.
…my impression is that my problems with the rhythm will get worse at higher difficulty levels. You really can’t go on a Mongol rampage, you have to pause and recoup happiness after taking each city.
It is now apparent to me that I shouldn’t be bothering to take out other civilisations altogether, I should just take the original capitals. That might be the whole problem. I bet there are things you can do to keep the conquered powers crippled so that your far-flung network of capitals doesn’t fall apart.
