Guise

thinking about the ConTessa stuff and the invisibility of non white, cis, male viewpoints and so on… I kinda feel a bit funny that I haven’t crowed to all the world that my wife got the Women of Color Technologist of the Year Award. I am, in fact, very proud.

OTOH, I use G+ for gaming and I maintain a light and comfy pseudo-anonymity around here, and telling everyone this would totally torpedo that situation.

OTFOH maybe telling some women who game that, you know, some gamers actually value the women in their lives and think it’s good when they achieve things… might not be bad. Maybe it could lift Stacy Dellorfano’s mood a bit.

OTBNWHOH* telling this personal non-gaming thing to, y’know, 800 gamers I don’t know all that well does seem like a recipe for disaster.

Anyway, I’m quietly proud.

  1. That is wonderful. I suspect kindness is going to be a more strategic commodity than ever for awhile so anyone you think needs lifted is probably worth at least a private kudos. Your clandestine profile here has always been great. Might be nothing wrong with creating a filter for people you think might benefit from exemplary disclosure.

  2. I just realised that my biggest badfeel about the OSR is that while it’s aware of its low number of nonwhites, noncis and nonmales and it’s conscious about it, it’s totally not aware of how improbably angloamerocentric it is, with all the weirdness it brings.

To the point where I’m pretty sure I have direct, personal interaction with maybe 90% of non anglos in the movement.

Culturally i feel very lonely here at times. And I think I gelled with you because you, culturally, do not perform like the typical anglos.

Btw your wife is hella awesome. Bring her my compliments as, yet again, I won’t see her as I swing by yours.
