…couldn’t we use our awesome fake news technologies to invent a completely fictitious third people, spew all our hate at them, and not actually harm any real people?

We’ve tried to have a fictitious people called “terrorists”. Some are now trying to have a fictitious people called “Russian hackers”. But the problem, as shown long ago by Georg Simmel, is that eventually, every triad becomes a dyad. So we are reaching a completely self-referential state in which there are only two people – red and blue (regardless of whether they actually live in Youessia or not).
